How to Reach Yercaud

Yercaud sits at about 1,500 m in the Shevaroy hills, reached by a famously scenic 20-hairpin-bend ghat road that climbs from Salem in under an hour. Here's how to get there from the major cities.

By road (the best way)

• From Salem: ~32 km / 1 hour up the ghat road. Salem is the gateway — all routes pass through it.
• From Bangalore: ~215 km / 4–4.5 hours via NH44 (Krishnagiri–Salem).
• From Chennai: ~370 km / 6–6.5 hours via NH79/NH38.
• From Coimbatore: ~170 km / 3.5 hours.
• From Trichy: ~140 km / 3 hours.

Self-drive and taxis are easiest. The hairpins are well-paved but drive slowly, especially in mist.

By train

The nearest major railhead is Salem Junction (SA), ~35 km away, well connected to Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore and beyond. From the station, take a taxi up the ghat (about an hour).

By air

The nearest airports are Salem Airport (~40 km, limited flights), Coimbatore (~170 km) and Tiruchirappalli/Trichy (~140 km), all with taxi connections.
