Yercaud Trip from Chennai — Route & Where to Stay
A Yercaud trip from Chennai makes a lovely long-weekend escape — a cool, green hill station without the long drive to Ooty or Munnar. Here's the route, how to get there without a car, a 2-day plan, and where to stay.
How far & the route
Yercaud is about 360 km from Chennai — roughly 6–6.5 hours by road via the Chennai–Salem highway (NH79/NH44), then the Yercaud ghat road up into the Shevaroy hills. Salem, just 30 minutes below Yercaud, is the nearest railhead and is very well connected to Chennai by train and bus.
Without a car
Take a train or overnight bus to Salem, then a taxi up the 20-hairpin ghat road to Yercaud (about 45 minutes). We can help arrange a pickup from Salem on request.
A relaxed 2-day plan
- Day 1: Arrive, lunch at the villa, then Yercaud Lake and sunset at Pagoda Point; campfire dinner.
- Day 2: Rose Garden, Lady's Seat, an estate walk, then head home.
